Machinists start at about $12-$15 per hour and can earn as much as $40 per hour. Salaries rise with experience and skill enhancement. Machinists work in small shops and large factories. Machining work is typically done around the clock in shifts allowing a variety of work schedules. Successful machinists are dependable, detail-oriented, careful and able to do a variety of machining tasks.
